Last week we took you to Nepal for a wedding featuring socks-and-sandals-wearing bride; then to the UK with a couple having the time of their lives with a wedding incorporating a bucking bronco and an inflatable castle.  Little Wed Hen enjoyed our trip to the UK so much that we thought we’d spend a little more time there. Today’s feature hails from London, and incorporates traditions from the bride’s Japanese heritage with those from the groom’s Brazilian background.

Read on as photographer Matt Foden shares his experience of covering this very intimate multicultural wedding.

Fabricio and Maiko were undoubtedly one of the loveliest couples we’ve had the pleasure of working with (ever!)  And without wishing to sound corny we definitely feel that by the end of their wedding day we had made two new friends.

The scene for their intimate wedding was London, a vibrant and cosmopolitan city that reflects the different cultural backgrounds of this couple. Maiko is Japanese, and Fabricio is Brazilian, yet they both live and work in this great capital city.  Their wedding took place in a beautiful registry office in Wandsworth, and was attended by the lovely couple themselves and two other couples, both very close friends. It’s so lovely to photograph such a small and intimate wedding, and as you can see from the photographs, the atmosphere was very personal, meaningful and emotional.

We all then journeyed to the beautiful Richmond Park, one of London’s Royal Parks, and which is also full of deer! An impromptu picnic and champagne toast followed, and of course the cake was cut. Even intimate weddings should have the important traditions! We then took Maiko and Fabricio for their portrait session around the park and also along the banks of the Thames. We had some beautiful warm evening light which really added to the feeling of romance.

Finally we all met up again in Fulham (just north of the Thames) for the evening reception at a wonderful Brazilian restaurant called Churrascaria. The couple were joined by more friends, and enjoyed a lovely evening meal.

It was such a warm, personal and individual wedding. I hope the photos capture even one tenth of how beautiful, personal and meaningful their wedding day was. It was an absolute pleasure to photograph.
